Thoughts And Opinions On : Coronavirus Part 7
Crackpots Run Wild
History is
not going to have a positive reflection of our handling of the virus.
The death toll has surpassed 180,000 as I'm typing this. One wonders how
things have gotten this bad. Explanations are very simple though, and
the faults lies throughout.
The simplest explanations for our failures and the high death toll are due to the following:
Conspiracy theories (Conspiracy theories literally killed people during this outbreak)
Many refused to make the needed sacrifices
Many people didn't take the virus seriously
Politicians didn't take the virus seriously
Unfortunately, people are going
to die from this virus regardless. Despite this, things can be done to
greatly reduce
and minimize the number of infections and deaths. However, if the
country implemented
the strict shutdown policies like those in China, this virus would have
been over by now. Most small businesses would have been protected. Sure,
people would have been greatly inconvenienced
temporarily. Things would have been back to normal within two months
with everybody looking at it in retrospect with "Do you remember that
crazy virus in 2020?". The aftermath would have been a lot less
destructive than how things played out.
Drastic issues means drastic measures. Sure,
one could sit back and hope for the best. However, hoping for the best
with no action would have resulted in certain death sentence.
Ignorance kills.
Conspiracy theories alone didn't kill many of the people though (as hard
as that is to believe). Several just didn't want to follow the health
regulation. They saw the mask as a massive inconvenience. They saw the
virus as an overblown crisis made worse by American corporate media.
Despite it much worse than the flu, many saw it as just a slightly worse
version of the common cold. Thus, many refused to wear the mask,
deeming it unnecessary. For several, not wearing the mask was seen as
making some profound and bold statement or declaration, when in reality,
this actions exposed just how selfish and self-centered that person it.
The mask are here to protect people.
Conspiracy Theories
During a crisis, we were all called to make sacrifices.
Unfortunately, many didn't want to make those sacrifices in the name of
"freedom". What good is freedom if one looses there lively-hood or
worse, there life. People could make those temporary sacrifices if it means a
long-term, prosperous outcome.
Many refused to make sacrifices because they became consumed by
invisible boogeymen that weren't there. Many gullible individuals
entertained the thoughts of conspiracy theories and believed that the
virus was the make-believe hoax used by the powers at be to seize
control power won the day. Unfortunately, this absurdity killed many
people.
One forgets that the reasons that all of the various health
regulations were
put in place is because there is a horrible virus that is running amok
without restriction. These measures were put in place to protect the
general
public and reduce the spread of exposure. The schools were closed to
protect the children. When parents are screaming that children need to
go back to school, there not concerned about there health; they just
want to get them out of the house.
Our tin-foil hat-wearing crackpots saw the closure of the schools
as some diabolical plan to control things and brainwash people for
reasons while destroying other things while hiding the truth due to
stuff (I got bored listening to baseless nonsensical drivel). In the
eyes of our paranoid, tin-foil hat wearing chumps: "How dare the state
and local
government try to protect people during the health crisis!".
For those who hadn't murdered logical and reason in cold
blood, one realizes that the regulations was not part of some nefarious
plot by people in fancy suits to seize power. Maybe tin-foil hats have
an adverse effect on people's health? Maybe the tin foil hat particles
makes there owners more thick-headed in the cranium? I don't know? (I
realize my tone sounds very harsh. I have a very strong dislike for
conspiracy theories. I could go as far to say that it massive number of
those killed in the outbreak wasn't the result of the virus, but it was
the embracing of conspiracy theories and many treating the outbreak as a
phony hoax that killed several. Conspiracy theories literally killed
scores of people the world over during this outbreak).
I doubt those who entertain foolish thoughts feel guilty about
there selfish actions that were rebranded as "liberty". They probably
didn't care that they might have potentially got others infected from
the virus, leading to there deaths. Many would die from the actions of
self-centered and egocentric maniacs.
A democracy only works when its citizens uphold the rights of
others as well as oneself. One can scream individual rights at the top
of there lungs, but unless if they are willing to uphold the rights of
others as well, then the rights of the individual are meaningless.
Democracy won't work if the individual is consumed with there own
rights, but embraces a "screw them" attitude for the rights of others.
The Golden Rule applies here. If you uphold the rights of others, than
people will uphold your rights. If your apathetic to the rights of
others, than others will be apathetic and dismissive of your rights.
When one is dismissive of the health and well-being of those around
them, then those who hold there well-being to a high standard will be
dismissive of those who mocked there measures.
Many of these pathetic buffoons didn't want to make the
sacrifice, and where now all paying the price. If the strict controls
were implemented, business would have suffered for some time. However,
most would have likely survived. Tens of thousands less would have died
as well. After a month or two, the restrictions would have been lifted
and things would have been back to normal. Sure things would have sucked
in the meantime. However, it would have been over after a short time.
However, a short time was too much to ask. For those paranoid of those
invisible boogeymen, this wasn't meant to be, and we would all suffer in
the process. Because of impatience, ignorance, and paranoia; we got a
much worse outcome. Things didn't have to be like this.
Sometimes, one needs to step back so that our precious thoughts
can articulate in a meaningful manner. However, the results of those
thoughts can invoke feelings ranging from despair and anger and
hostility. Despair in that more could have done more. Anger and hostility
is invoked when those in power could have done much more.
